Growing Connection
Growing Connection is part of the 2023 Terrain Biennial, a grassroots public art festival that brings artists and neighbors together to put public art on the front lawns (and porches, windows, and rooftops, too!) of neighborhoods across the world.
Artists and curators collaborated with hosts to produce public art installations (think sculptures, paintings, projections, flags, yarn art, you name it!) outside their homes (and other unexpected spots!).
From October 1 – November 15, the projects are on display for anyone who walks, rolls, skips or wanders by to discover!
Growing Connection is a demonstration of community collaboration to create an installation that will change over time. Using a material stash and questions located throughout the installation, we'll build interconnected structures together. The final form that will result is entirely dependent on how the community and environment interact. We hope this will spark conversation around the reciprocal relationships between people and our relationship to the spaces we inhabit.
A series of questions are presented throughout the installation to further build connection.
How to partcipate in person
Community Members are invited to respond to the prompts or add to the installation by:
Writing, drawing or constructing with items found in the material stash including -
printed sheets*, writing and cutting utensils, yarn, found objects, and other natural or donated items
Reflecting, conversing, performing or any other ways that won’t be documented but are
important in growing connection.
Decorating clay mushrooms inside of the Communication building - Available during shop hours ( Sat 11-3pm)
and during live events
Also feel free to use the materials to share your thoughts, ideas and dreams for our communities.
* Printed sheets may be taken home and shared online via the form below or placed in the giant mushroom bucket
Any responses shared with this project may be included in a zine about Growing Connection
Note: There aren’t any wrong answers! Please refrain from sharing that causes harm to anyone. The artists and team of volunteers at Communication reserve the right to take down anything that is deemed hateful.
